Spread The Smiles: Thirst Relief

Clean water is an ordinary part of our lives however there are still roughly 844 million people with no access to it. This is an ongoing crisis that effects more than 1 in 10 people around the world. A child under the age of 5 dies every two minutes due to diseases contracted from unsafe water they have no other option but to drink. An average woman in rural Africa walks 6km per day to carry water for her family.

In response to this, as our first fundraiser for Spread The Smiles, we aim to solve this problem for at least 500 people by commissioning a community well for a village that has no clean water source in Africa. Our second aim is to ensure the well is kept safe and fully maintained with regular inspections to ensure clean, safe water is provided for many years to come. 

The construction of the well is planned to give the maximum duration of use, benefit and consist of:

80 metre deep drilling
A mechanical water pump (will be enclosed and protected)
2500 ton capacity water tank
Plumbing system will be put in place to direct water to multiple taps for wide use

Once built, photos and videos of the construction will be published.
