Fuel Abigail's Journey to a Brick and Mortar

My name is Abigail. Most of my friends call me Abs, and I’m the owner of Abs of Cakes. Abs of Cakes is a custom cake business established in 2022, but I’ve been working on this craft for over 15 years. Abs of Cakes is known for its unique custom cake creations which includes various celebrity clients such as LeBron James' family, Jhene Aiko, Ali Wong, Trixie Mattel, and Thundercat just to name a few. I collaborate with other small businesses to host workshops where I share cake decorating techniques with local communities.

Currently, Abs of Cakes is in a growth phase outgrowing my home kitchen through a Cottage Food Operation and in the process of starting up a brick and mortar in East Los Angeles, CA. My custom cakes and small pastries are currently sold online by request through my website (absofcakes.com).

As a solopreneur it’s been difficult to get my business to the next level. Owning my very own cake shop has been a dream of mine since I started designing cakes in 2009. I am so close to getting there as I already have a commercial space, but before I can fully operate out of it, I will need to do a build out and purchase the necessary equipment which requires a lot of startup capital.

Contractor = $20,000

Health Dept Inspections/Permits = $2000

At least 3-months rent while doing build out = $9000

TOTAL = $65,700

Even if you cannot donate monetarily, I’m open to bartering services that would help with the build out process. I’m also open to any resources for any of these services that I would need.

As you can see it’s going to require a lot of money to kickstart this dream. But I’m at a halt financially and don’t want this commercial space to go to waste as I try to raise funds during this process.
