Support Marcela's Battle with Hodgkin Lymphoma (Cancer)
Donation protected
Marcela spent the summer of 2024 struggling to breath and sleep. What they thought was pneumonia turned out to be extensive tumors which led them to find Stage 4 Hodgkin Lymphoma - a form of cancer found in the lymphatic system. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy to treat the cancer and the doctors have high hopes. Her lungs are full of amoebic tumors and one lung is completely obstructed. Treatments for this have been ineffective, but the doctors believe that with successful chemo, that amoeba treatments will work as well. But the process is going to be long.
Marcela is a single mother with two children. She had just moved from Managua to Leon and was diagnosed as they were attempting to move into their new home. She's had to pull her children from their new school and send them to a school in Managua as that is where she is receiving her chemo. She is very fortunate to have access to free healthcare that is doing a wonderful job of taking care of her, but she has many ancillary bills. She has a limited support network and because of the weakness from the cancer and tumors, she cannot generally cook for her family, take care of the children or clean the house and she needs to be monitored at all times as even a simple fall could be disastrous if no one is there to assist.
The money we are trying to raise here is to help her make it through the next 1-2 years of support for her treatments. Financial assistance with paying for helpers, transportation, school supplies, special dietary requirements and other associated costs that are incurred because she is unable to live with her children at home under her own care, unable to care fully for herself and needing to travel often for treatments.
