Honouring Daéjaun: A Life Taken Too Soon

Honouring Daéjaun-Age’d 15, a life taken too soon. Support the family to bury Daejaun

As his auntie, I have created this page on behalf of his mother to help raise funds and support her during this difficult time.

In an unexpected and devastating senseless act, Daéjaun’s life was stolen from him due to the ongoing violent knife crime that is affecting our communities every day. A young boy, who should have been planning his future, taken many of his firsts his first car, his first job, his first child, and many more had his life tragically cut short.

The person responsible for this act of violence needs to be held accountable for being the reason why a mother has to bury her child, which is not the natural order of life.

Daéjaun took his last breath on the 22nd of September 2024, at 19:18, in the very streets where you could walk and hear the locals sing his praises as a charming, kind-hearted, respectful young boy.

Daéjaun comes from a very loving and supportive family network, and his story is one we hear in our communities time and time again. This was a child who was loved, and his family reached out to numerous multi-disciplinary agencies for support, such as his school, and the local authorities. Daéjaun was working with Project Life Line to build a better future for himself. And they have been so supportive from the and are still supporting us today

Our Daéjaun was a 15 year old naturally gifted, intelligent, creative, and talented child with a bright future ahead of him. Daéjaun loved being a big brother and took great pride in being a devoted older sibling to his two younger brothers, always doing his best to guide and protect them.

Our children are being let down by local authorities, and families are not getting the support needed to prevent our children from being groomed and exploited by adults. This highlights the ongoing issues in our communities that we need to work together to change, for the sake of our future generations.

We are reaching out for support from the community from mothers, fathers, grandmothers, brothers, and sisters to help cover the costs of Daéjaun’s memorial and funeral, allowing his family to give him the farewell he so deeply deserves.

Any donation, no matter how big or small, will go directly towards covering the expenses of Daéjaun’s funeral and honouring his life.

As a family, we will not let Daéjaun’s murder be in vain. We will not stop fighting for justice, not only for our child but for all the children before him and those who will follow, as, unfortunately, the sad reality is that Daéjaun will not be the last, and he certainly wasn't the first.

As a community, it is time to stand together in solidarity and rise up. Let the authorities and those who commit these acts of violence know that enough is enough we are tired of burying our children.

Daéjaun’s legacy will continue to live on, and we will not let his name be forgotten.
