Help Striking Alamo Drafthouse Workers!

Support the workers at Alamo Drafthouse - Lake Highlands in their campaign for a safe workplace and fair wages.

At 6 pm on Saturday, November 12th, the organized employees of Drafthouse United held a limited "walk-out" strike to demand the immediate reinstatement of their wrongfully and illegally fired colleague, Chay Burleson, along with wage increases and an end to management's targeted harassment of employees who engage in organizing.

This fundraiser will help cover some of the wages lost by Chay Burleson since his unlawful firing, as well as most of the wages lost by the workers who participated in the strike.

This strike began with the delivery of a petition to management. Most of the employees and nearly every server at the Lake Highlands Alamo Drafthouse signed the petition and participated in the strike. The striking workers picketed their workplace until approximately 12:30 am. They offered hot chocolate and popcorn to customers passing by and asked that customers write messages of support for the union on their checks. They were met with overwhelming support from the customers and were joined by dozens of members of other local labor unions, such as the North Texas Local of the Industrial Workers of the World, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1338, and Alliance/American Federation of Teachers.

The petition gave management until December 1st to respond to their demands. So far, management has only escalated their policy of targeted harassment and has said in writing that they refuse to negotiate with their employees and wholly reject all demands.
