Help rebuild Ware skatepark

The old Ware skatepark in Priory Park was dismantled earlier this year to make way for a new and more robust concrete skatepark with loads of new features for Ware’s skateboarders, BMX, and scooter riders of all ages and abilities.

Ware Town Council has already secured an encouraging level of funding for the project, but in the interests of maximising the skate park’s appeal we are hopeful of raising further funds so that we can create something really special for the community. With skateboarding being a new sport at the Tokyo Olympics this year, perhaps our new Ware skatepark will help produce a future Team GB athlete!

Skate park construction does, however, comes with costs that are not always immediately obvious. For example, the provision of proper drainage and associated insurances add to the bill and so every penny helps. It is also the case that the larger footprint available to users, the safer the environment becomes for people to practice their skills, particularly when features can be spaced out across the build. While the park will remain in the Priory, it’s design is constrained only by the current space and the available funding. With more cash we can be creative and have spare change to provide facilities such as benches from which parents can safely keep watch from a safe distance.

The current funding pot already holds £150,000, which in context of the £100,000 raised to build neighbouring Hertford’s bowl will give us strong scope to build upon what is locally available. Harlow’s skatepark, on the other hand, cost just over £350,000. With its multi-feature design and smart layout several users can ride all at once; this is something to aspire to given the extremely strong demand for skate parks and facilities such as dirt jumps in Hertfordshire.
