Scott Mathews was diagnosed with Metastatic Stage 4 Colon Cancer in October 2022. Since then, he has battled fiercely and continues to do so. He has upcoming trips to Emory University Hospital for surgery and treatment. Scott has spent his life in service to others from pastoring churches in Swain and Macon counties to working within the Intellectual Developmental Disability, Older Adult and Veterans communities of Western North Carolina. He and his family have supported and contributed to many over the years.
Scott is from the Tow String Community in Swain County. His wife Jeanne is from Jackson County. They have been married 28 years and together they adopted and raised two children, Ricky and Crystal. They are very proud of both their children. Crystal currently serves in the US ARMY. Ricky currently lives in an AFL home in Wilkesboro, NC and is working on his life skills. They have lived in Swain, Macon and Jackson counties and have made connections over the years across all of WNC. Scott and Jeanne currently reside in Sylva with their three dogs. Through the years they have been very involved with church and family. They have been students and mentors in the IDD community as they raised Ricky. They are testament to what it takes to not only make a marriage work, but also raise a special needs child, pastor a church and balance work and family. Patience, perseverance, communication, and love, but most of all placing God first!
Please help us give back and help him out at this difficult time in his life.
