Join Stella's Fight for Recovery and Stability

Dear Friends, Family, and Community,

Kuma’s Corner has created this GoFundMe to support our dear friend and former colleague, Joey, and her brave daughter, Stella. Stella’s journey has been incredibly tough, and they need our help now more than ever.

In May 2023, Stella’s life was tragically altered when she was viciously attacked by a bully at school. This heart-wrenching incident left Stella with a severe concussion after her head was slammed against a brick wall multiple times and then beaten against the concrete. The attack was unprovoked, sparked by a mere accidental bump. Despite Joey’s prior reports to the school about the bully, they failed to protect Stella, resulting in a traumatic and bloody ordeal that led to her hospitalization and the need for five staples to close a head wound.

Following the attack, Stella underwent six months of intensive care, including sessions with a concussion specialist, physical therapist, and ongoing trauma therapy. However, the impact of such a violent event has led to further complications. Eleven months later, Stella developed a neurological disorder as a result of her injuries. In April 2024, she was admitted to Lurie Children’s Hospital for a month after experiencing severe symptoms. Stella then spent a month at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab undergoing aggressive and innovative therapies to aid in her recovery.

To support Stella and Joey during this challenging time, Kuma's Corner has created "Stella's Burger," dedicated to Stella and featuring all her favorite burger toppings: Kuma’s Angus Beef Patty, Spicy Dijonnaise, Mushrooms, Fried Pickles, Muenster Cheese, and Avocado. Stella's Burger will be available starting July 20th and will remain on the menu until the GoFundMe goal is reached. For every Stella's Burger sold, Kuma's Corner will donate $2 to this GoFundMe campaign.

We are also excited to announce that Stella and Joey will be at the Original Kuma's Corner on Belmont on the afternoon of July 20th. Join us to celebrate the release of Stella's Burger, make donations for her GoFundMe, and participate in an auction to raise additional funds. This special event will bring our community together to show support for Stella and Joey in their time of need.

This GoFundMe campaign aims to cover Stella’s medical expenses and, most importantly, secure a new, accessible apartment for them. With your support, Stella can continue her recovery in a safe and suitable environment and return home as soon as possible.

Joey has always been strong and independent, but right now, they need our help. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a huge difference. If you can’t donate, sharing their story, sending positive thoughts, and checking in on them are equally appreciated.
