We are The Underdogs of Love Rescue, a small rescue serving an area with some of the highest kill shelters in Southern California. Our Mission is to rescue dogs and cats from public shelters and find suitable life-long families. We fully vet our rescue pets and provide foster programs to give our rescues a safe space to grow, learn and regain trust. As we grow, we aim to provide education about the importance of spaying and neutering; and how to help resolve systematic reasons why pets are being put in shelters and on the streets.
Our founder, Daryl Alison, has been rescuing pets for the past 10 years. His love for animals and the desire to help those in need led to the creation of The Underdogs of Love. However, not many people know that all the work Daryl has done and continues to do has been paid for out of his own pocket. We are in the process of becoming a non-profit 501c3, which will allow us to accept pledges and donations, but until then we need your help!
With the current inflation, we (along with most rescues) have been hit hard. The demand for our help has increased exponentially. We are seeing the number of owner surrenders and dogs on the street skyrocket, all while the number of adoptions and foster/volunteers is at an all-time low. We are called upon, tagged on social media and emailed daily with pleas to help dogs on "last notice" who are set to be euthanized simply due to the high volumes in shelters, but there's only so much we can do with low adoption rates and minimal income. Here are three ways you can help!
- Donate: all donations will be used to pay for our boarding, food, vet costs and training for the dogs in our care

- Foster/Volunteer: while we are grateful for the awesome fosters we have, the majority of our rescue dogs are in boarding until they are adopted, which is one of our biggest expenses. Fostering allows our dogs/cats to be in safe homes, while in turn opening our resources for different costs.
Transparecy is key for us! We want to share where exactly your money would be going to. Here is the break down our cost for a single dog in our care:
Boarding: $30 per day
Food: 1 bag is $55 (lasts around 2-3 weeks)
Vaccines: $85 (Bordetella/DHPPC/Rabies)
Bloodwork: $200+ (depends on age and weight of pet)
Neuter/Spay: $250 - $400 (depending on weight of the pet)
Medication: Many dogs come in with treatable parasites. Some have come in with broken bones, upper respitory infections or unknown abnormalities discovered in bloodwork that leads to hospitalization. $600 - $2,000.
Training: $700 (twice a week program)
