Emergency: Help Amir's Family in Gaza to Evacuate

Dear friends, Amir Al-Gharabawi and I created this fundraiser to facilitate the evacuation of his remaining family, 4 adults and 1 small children, and to offer support to them once they have safely made it through the Rafah Crossing into Egypt. My name is Sara and I reside in the US. Amir and I became friends in October. If you found your way to our GFM page, I am sure it is because you already know Amir and have seen the ways he works to bring monumental moments of joy and laughter and hope to the people and places around him, and to all of us by extension!

Amir and his family were first displaced early on, and several times since. They have been in Rafah the last few months and have nowhere to go back to at this time. Everything in Gaza is destroyed, including their home. Leaving is an impossibly painful decision to make, and it is only made when there are no other viable choices. To add to that, the reality of this situation is that families are being forced to separate due to the high costs of the crossing fee. Our goal at this time is to do everything we can to keep their family together and get everyone to safety.

The evacuation fee changes from time to time; we are currently anticipating a cost of ~ $7,500-8,000 per person based on the most recent estimates he was provided. Any additional funds received will go towards supporting the family’s immediate needs. There are different obstacles they will face on the other side, and I hope we are able to make some things a bit easier for them. Everyone who evacuates leaves with what little they have left and will need as much help as they can get; the past 6 months have taken everything from everyone.

The proceeds of this fundraiser will go to an account managed by me and sent to Amir via Western Union. This means of getting funds to him has already worked for us previously.
