Lee McCune Braille Trail Restoration, Renovation

I'm Bob a member of the non-profit Casper Mountain Lions Club. I am the coordinator for this GoFundMe fundraiser. The CMLC members are the caretakers and custodians of the Lee McCune Braille trail on the top of beautiful Casper Mountain. We are hoping to raise funds for the continuing maintenance and upkeep of the trail so that it can be enjoyed by the (sighted and non-sighted) thousands of visitors each year in a safe pleasant environment.

With your support, the funds will help recover the cost of duplicating the three bridges that are being replaced for safety concerns and the maintenance of the trail in the future.

The funds will also be used to continually monitor the trail and make whatever changes and repairs are necessary so visitors can enjoy the trail in a safe manner.

This past year we have been engaged in the replacement of three bridges that cover Elkhorn Creek as it meanders its way through the Braille Trail to the cost of well over $7,000. Braille signage replacement will also be a significant cost this summer.

The site of the Lee McCune Braille Trail south of Casper, Wyoming on Casper Mountain has a wide variety of plant life. Each station along the trail’s guide rails has information about the natural surroundings in English print and Braille. Visitors can hear a babbling brook, touch rough tree bark, and have other sensory experiences as they follow the trail through the forest, over a bridge, and even through a bog. The trail was designated as a National Recreation Trail in 1976.
