An update (9/5/24)
Hi everyone. I want to start by saying how grateful Ember and my family are for everyone's thoughts, contributions, well-wishes, and prayers. Ember and I met with the oncologist yesterday and got confirmation on her prognosis. Without going into too much detail, I can share that she has stage/grade 4 brain cancer. The mass itself was an astrocytoma/glioblastoma. She'll be doing at least one cycle of radiation and chemo to delay any further spread, but this particular type of cancer is incurable.
It's all a bit overwhelming, but I'm happy to answer any questions. I know that Ember would appreciate messages of support and I'm happy to pass those along, or if you have her contact info, emailing/messaging her is ok.
I can't thank you enough for the outpouring of care that all of you have shown her, it truly means the world to us.
Thanks everyone, sending love to you all.
With deepest gratitude,
Jesse
Hi there, thank you so much for your support. I'm fundraising for Ember Hood, my dearest friend. She is the kindest and most generous person I've ever known, and now she needs our help. All of the funds raised here will go to her post-hospital care (anything insurance doesn't cover), and making sure she can make ends meet until she can return to work again.
On the evening of August 6th, Ember collapsed and had a seizure. After being rushed to the hospital, they found a 5-centimeter (egg-sized/shaped) mass in her brain. She was able to have brain surgery on the 12th to have it removed, and is now in post-surgery/recovery.
Medical costs have never been higher, and the road to recovery is arduous. Ember works as an editor and it's scary facing the unknown after such an invasive procedure.
Ember means the world to me, and I so deeply appreciate any contribution to her care.
With gratitude,
Jesse Bickford
