The Trans USA Fund

Hey, my name is Lucia Blayke and I'm the founder of London Trans+ Pride and now the UK's first trans+ recruitment agency in the UK and Europe, which aims to close the trans unemployment gap.
I am now raising funds for our latest initiative, 'The Trans USA Project' that aims to provide support and aid to trans folk who are at risk of persecution, unfair detention and sudden loss of healthcare.
On his inauguration day, Jan 20th 2025, President Trump signed the executive order mandating federal agencies to:
- Recognize only two genders, defined strictly by biological sex assigned at conception.
- Replace the term "gender" with "sex" in official materials.
- Cease funding for gender-affirming care.
- Disallow self-identification of gender on federal documents such as passports.
- Prohibit transgender individuals from accessing single-sex federally funded facilities that align with their gender identity.
Stopping healthcare for trans individuals will most likely have serious implications on their mental health and could lead to an increase in suicide rates in the community. Suddenly stopping hormone treatment can also cause serious physical health problems, like sudden strokes and long-term issues like brittle bone disease.
The government has also stopped accepting new applications for passports and legal documents that match a person’s gender identity. Trans people who already applied are now getting documents that show the sex they were assigned at birth instead.
Because of this, some trans people have been stopped at borders and denied re-entry into the U.S. due to issues with their documents.
Individual states are also going to have their own interpretations of the executive order to "Recognize only two genders, defined strictly by biological sex assigned at conception."
In certain conservative states, there is a growing risk that even just being openly transgender could face legal challenges. Under a recent executive order, transgender individuals must be placed in prisons that align with their sex assigned at birth. This means trans women would be housed in male prisons, where studies have shown they face a significantly higher risk of violence, assault, and exploitation.
The Republican governments treatment of it's trans citizens is completely inhumane and in light of that, the American trans communities need as much help and support as they can possibly get.
The fund is open to all identities under the trans umbrella, and we especially encourage applications from BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People Of Colour) as they will be affected the most.
Payments will be issued to each single applicant in one lump sum of $500 (which is around £375.)
The payments will prioritize those seeking financial support for:
- Legal Aid
- Housing
- Healthcare
- Emergency Travel
All applicants must go through a verification process that we aim to make as non-intrusive as possible. We will also publish receipts publicly as complete transparency is of the upmost importance to us.
